Equally a sculpture as much as an audio speaker, Studio Lim’s porcelain Sound Pot design handles user interaction in a unique direction. A user turns on the unit by grabbing the white NURB shaped device by the knob handle. Flipping it right side up, the speaker blinks on and begins playing; volume is controlled by carefully rolling it from one side or to another.

As noted on the project page, the fragility of these blutooth mp3 speakers obviously dictate the Sound Pot is more of a sculptural exercise than a real world consumer device. But we like the experimentation in regards to user controls, as the Sound Pot’s smooth porcelain finish is a tactile invitation to investigate what looks anything but a speaker.

Still confused what to make of these? Check out the embedded video over at Studio Lim’s website and it will become more clear the “how” and “what” of it all.
