Choosing a Registry Cleaner to Improve PC Performance

There’s a lot of talk around registry repair utilities lately. What they can and can’t do to improve your computers performance and if they’re even worth buying. I know this first hand since I spent quite a bit of time testing and trying to determine which registry cleaner if any actually improved PC performance. My results were a bit surprising.

Some of them are Crap

A few of the registry repair programs I tested didn’t really seem to do a single thing to improve the performance of my test computer. Sure they ran a full scan, said they repaired a bunch of errors but when I ran my bench mark tests on performance and speed nothing changed.

There was only a couple of programs that were worth being named the top registry cleaner that made a difference. Of those they seemed to make more of a difference in boot up time of my computer and how long it took to open certain programs.

Unfortunately the program I tested most of these programs on didn’t have many errors to speak of such as blue screens or crashing problems. I wasn’t able to determine how well the best registry cleaners could fix those type of items.

My gut feeling is that if an errors is directly related to a registry entry or missing piece of registry information then a program like RegCure or Registry Mechanic could probably fix it. How ever if it’s a missing or corrupt file in the actual program then no registry cleaner or any other utility is going to be able to fix the problem.

My Conclusion

If you’re frustrated with the speed of your PC booting up or if your computer seems to lag when you open certain programs it might be worth running a registry cleaner. I think these programs have a time and place I don’t believe how ever that they’re a one fix all solution to everything PC and Windows® related.
